In addition to murals, donuts are a big thing in Nashville. While we didn’t eat our way through Nashville, visiting every donut place, we did a bit of damage and will share our findings with you.
Murals are a big thing in Nashville. Just google “Nashville Murals” and you’ll find not only lists of the murals, but tours that will take you there. Golf cart tours. Van tours. Party bus tours. We got some lists before we went, and then decided to just see what we saw and not look them up.
In a recent trip to Nashville, we figured we had to check out the Grand Ole Opry. And what is next door? Gaylord Opryland Resort. Don’t miss it!
Going through all my Nashville photos, there were a lot that didn’t fit any specific category I was covering. So I’m including some random photos that will tell a bigger picture of the Nashville scene.
I have a friend who lives in Franklin, and she took me to Puckett’s, where they have live music and food. We spent some time listening to the lovely Kennedy Scott singing. She’s a Nashville native and we enjoyed hearing her.

I love Cirque du Soleil performances. They are always a cut above circus-type performances, with its creativity. Last year we were treated to Crystal, a Cirque du Soleil show on ice. Tomorrow night we’re seeing Corteo – Cirque du Soleil with kids at the Prudential, with acrobatics and yes – clowns! The show will be in town through June 18, so don’t miss it!
For a quick 2 day trip over Memorial Day, we drove south to the Wilmington, Delaware area. There, in the land of the duPonts, are a lot of fantastic gardens and opulent homes. If you’re interested in visiting Nemours Estate and Longwood Gardens with kids, you’re in for a treat. .
Nemours Estate is one of the many mansions and gardens you can visit in the Wilmington, Delaware area. You’ll quickly learn that this is the land of the duPont family – there is no escaping them in this region.
Nemours Estate was the home of Alfred duPont and two of his three wives (but at separate times!). He built it for his second wife in just 18 months, which seems miraculous when you see how advanced it is. It is on the same property as the Nemour’s Children’s Hospital, so the entrance is a bit odd and the hospital is there just beyond the parking lot and gates. It was something both Alfred and his third wife Jessie wanted, and it was built after his death.
Continue reading “Nemours Estate With Kids”For Memorial Day weekend, we decided to do a two-day trip to the Wilmington, Delaware area. There’s lots to do in Wilmington Delaware with kids, but also if you go for an adult weekend.
The area perhaps should be called duPont, as so much of the history in this area involves the duPont family. That includes the two big destinations for our weekend, Nemours Estate and Longwood Gardens, both of which we visited for several hours each. And we didn’t even get to most of the duPont historical landmarks.
Wilmington is the headquarters for the duPont chemical company, called duPont de Nemours, Inc. (before they bought Dow Chemicals). You’ll recognize that Nemours part from the estate. And as you may know, Delaware itself is the incorporation home to more than half of all U.S. publicly-traded companies as well as more than 65% of Fortune 500 companies. There is no corporate income tax for companies registered there that don’t do business there. But this is all beside the point.
