For the last few years, Jersey Kids has participated in Passports with Purpose, a fundraiser organized by travel bloggers to use our connections to do something impactful in the world.
This year the project is to raise funds to build three schools for kids, and three adult literacy programs in Mali, Africa, through buildOn.
In the past, we’ve raised:
-$116,000 to build 5 wells in Haiti (2012)
-$90,000 to build two libraries in Zambia (2011)
-$60,000 to build houses for 25 families in India (2010)
-$28,000 to build a school in rural Cambodia (2009)
-$7,500 for Heifer International.
You see how this fundraiser has grown!
PwP accomplishes its goals by partnering with an established organization who already knows the area’s needs and has the connections to get the work done. We fundraise for a specific goal.
How it works:
Bloggers solicit fabulous prizes from sponsors. For each $10 donation, you get an entry into a raffle for the prize of your choice. More $10 increments, more entries. Last year I won a GoPro camera! Anything you donate is tax deductible.
Here are some of the prizes you can win:
GoPro camera (like mine!) from Albany Kid
HP Slate Tablet from Kids on a Plane
Kindle Paperwhite from Getaway Mavens

3 nights at the Four Seasons Hotel in Punta Mita, Mexico by Ciao Bambino – kid-friendly
And also a parents getaway at Scottsdale”s Four Season Resort at Troon North
A Vail Resorts Epic pass from Mother of All Trips
Little Passports 12 month subscription from Family Travel Magazine
As of this posting, we’re 50% of the way toward our goal of $115,000 (the widget will update in real time, so hopefully when you read this it will be higher). In the past we’ve always exceeded it (often in the last day!) but I urge you to take some time today or this weekend to look through the catalog of prizes, and make some donations.
Thank to you to the generous corporate sponsors including Expedia, DK Eyewitness Travel, Rough Guides, Collette Vacations, TBEX and Eating London Food Tours.
