What to do at Chelsea Piers with Kids

If you live or work in Manhattan, you might be more familiar with Chelsea Piers. With lots of sports classes for kids and adults, plus a workout facility, this is a regular spot for many. If you live outside of Manhattan though, there’s still plenty you can take advantage of during trips into the city.

Here are a few things to do with kids at Chelsea Piers:

Bowling

Bowlmor at Chelsea Piers is not your neighborhood bowling alley. With fun lights and upscale décor, they also have high end pub food including burgers and pizza, tacos, brownie sundaes, plus some awesome signature cocktails (not so awesome when bowling with your kids in the middle of the day, however).

Batting Cages

Chelsea Piers offers four batting cages at the Field House, and it will look like you’re getting pitches from an actual pro pitcher given ProBatter video screen technology (imagine yourself a Yankee and increase your team’s chances of winning the World Series – see real odds in William Hill just to make sure). Call before you go, because availability might be limited.

Driving Range

While the Chelsea Piers golf club offers more than a driving range (they have high tech lessons, simulators and analysis too). But what a driving range it is. Overlooking the Hudson River, you actually hit balls onto the pier from one of several levels (we did it from the fourth floor). You buy a quantity of balls, which is sucked through a system and delivered to your tee automatically. No bending down to put the balls in place. No handling the bucket of balls. It’s fun! The fairway is 200 yards – see if you can hit the ball retriever as you drive.

Ice Skating

Chelsea Piers” Sky Rink has open skating hours. Check the schedule before going, since they also host lessons, events and hockey training. While you’re skating from one of their two rinks, you’ll have a view of the Hudson. Rentals and snacks are available.

Chelsea Piers has other drop-in activities for kids and families, including indoor rock climbing, teen parkour. Plus plenty of food.
