Welcome to Jersey Kids! My name is Debbie Abrams Kaplan, and I’ll be your guide for the journey.
I’m a travel journalist and mom of two kids. You’ll find my travel tales in magazines like FamilyFun, Shape, Continental, Private Clubs, Destination: Vacation, AAA Traveler, Acura Style and Virutoso Life. I also write travel for newspapers like the Los Angeles Times, New York Daily News, Dallas Morning News, Philadelphia Inquirer, Chicago Tribune, Miami Herald, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News and more. I’m an online travel contributor to websites including Gothamist and MasterCard’s Priceless Cities New York. You can read my travel pieces at my website, Kaplan Ink.
I started writing family travel after having kids – after all, couples trips to exotic locations are now only possible with babysitting. Now I bring my kids along, whether they like it or not. Generally they like it more when they get ice cream and souvenirs at the end.
So join us while we traipse around the New York and New Jersey area – with lots of side trips to other destinations as well!
Be sure to visit Jersey Kids’ sister site, Frisco Kids – especially if you’re heading to the San Francisco Bay Area.
If you have any tips for me, or want me to check a place out as a day trip, email me at blog (at) jerseykids.net.
Thanks for your website. My wife and I saw Phantom in NYC five years ago with a 13-year-old grandson, who loved the show, as did we. We are traveling tomorrow to NYC with one of our sons and his family, where a trip to Broadway will include Phantom. The grandson is 9 and his sister is 7, so I had concerns about them being frightened. I’ve given the parents some suggestions on what they will see on stage and how to prepare the kids. I linked your article so the parents can see your thoughts. Best regards!
